Overview

About Cargo Group

Founded in 1959 in Kutch, Cargo Group began as an automotive dealership rooted in trust, hard work, and long-term relationships. Over the decades, what started as a single-line business has evolved into a diversified enterprise with a strong presence across multiple industries.

From its automotive origins, the Group steadily expanded across Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Delhi NCR, building scale through disciplined execution and responsible growth. Today, Cargo Group represents a comprehensive mobility portfolio — spanning commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, luxury automotive brands, two-wheelers, and electric vehicles. Beyond vehicle retailing, the Group provides integrated solutions including insurance, financing facilitation, and after-sales services, ensuring end-to-end mobility support.

As the mobility ecosystem evolved, Cargo Group extended its capabilities into EV charging infrastructure and related solutions, reinforcing its commitment to future-ready transportation.

Beyond automotive, the Group has diversified into Operation & Maintenance services, glass processing, and hospitality — each business built on the same foundation of operational rigor and customer-centric thinking. The glass processing division delivers specialized solutions across applications, while the hospitality venture is guided by a commitment to premium service and guest experience. The Operation & Maintenance arm focuses on reliability, efficiency, and long-term asset performance.

Across all its verticals, Cargo Group remains guided by principles that have endured since 1959 — integrity, disciplined processes, quality execution, and enduring partnerships.

More than six decades later, the Group continues to evolve while staying anchored to the values that shaped its beginnings.

Our Founder

Mr. YP Nanda
Founder

Yash Pal Nanda was a pioneer whose life story mirrors the resilience and determination that shaped modern India. Born on 18th August 1925 in Lyalpur (now in Pakistan), he belonged to a Zamindar family that valued education, discipline, and responsibility. The upheaval of Partition in 1947 forced his family to migrate to India, leaving behind their land and livelihood. Like many of his generation, he rebuilt from the ground up — with courage, conviction, and an unshakeable belief in opportunity.

Settling in Delhi, Mr. Nanda began his journey in the automobile trade through vehicle sales, purchases, and financing. His early experiences gave him deep insight into mobility, transport economics, and the aspirations of a newly independent nation. He later ventured into launching passenger transport services in underserved regions of Uttar Pradesh, introducing mechanised connectivity in areas where road infrastructure was still evolving. Even in these formative years, he demonstrated a rare ability to identify opportunity in difficult terrain.

In 1959, he accepted what would become a defining chapter of his life. Tata Motors (then India’s foremost commercial vehicle manufacturer) entrusted him with the dealership for heavy vehicles in the district of Kutch at Gandhidham–Kandla, Gujarat. At the time, Kutch was an isolated desert region with limited exposure to organised transport and minimal industrial activity.

What followed was not merely the establishment of a dealership — it was the creation of a transport ecosystem.

Mr. Nanda travelled extensively across villages and trading hubs, encouraging farmers, shepherds, small traders, and first-generation entrepreneurs to adopt commercial vehicles. He supported and financed early transport operators, enabling them to connect Kutch to neighbouring towns and eventually to markets across India. As transport activity increased, economic momentum followed. The rise of the logistics network around Kandla Port and Gandhidham was closely intertwined with the growth of commercial mobility in the region.

Cargo Motors quickly became synonymous with reliability, trust, and service excellence. Under his leadership, the company expanded across Gujarat and later into Punjab, steadily building one of the most respected Tata Motors dealership networks in the country. He also played a pioneering role in the organised motor parts trade, strengthening after-sales support and customer confidence.

His leadership extended beyond business performance. Mr. Nanda was unanimously elected President of the Tata Motors Transport Contractors Association and also served as President of the Drivers’ Welfare Association — a rare combination that reflected the trust placed in him by both industry and workforce. Drivers regarded him as a guardian figure, known for fairness, accessibility, and advocacy.

Despite his growing stature, he remained deeply grounded. He retained a strong connection to agriculture, converting barren lands into productive farms and encouraging scientific farming practices and water conservation long before environmental sustainability became a global priority. He was generous in supporting social and community initiatives and was widely respected for his humility and compassion.

His legacy continues to guide Cargo Group today — anchored in trust, strengthened by process, and committed to responsible growth.
